AAHHHH Taking a break last week was incredible. I worked hard to get there and the break came at just the right time. I spent the week reading and playing video games, generally, some youtube of other people playing video games. It was great to refill the well. I def drained it pretty dry working on those deadlines.

This week I brainstormed, outlined, and started writing a science fiction horror for my next BSQ entry. Boundary Shock Quarterly is a closed (meaning they don’t take submissions and writing members are invite only) magazine that publishes scifi every 3 months on a theme.

You can read all about it and browse past issues here: https://www.boundaryshockquarterly.com/ (and yes, I get paid for past issue sales on any platform!) . If you’re looking specifically for my work, I was invited to join at issue # 14 and I’ve been in every issue since.

Anyway, I’ve started writing the new short. Only it might actually be a novella by the time I’m done with it. The setup is taking its time and I’m not in a rush to get it out, so I’m happy to let it breathe.

Next week will be more of the same. This story is due August 1st and I intend to hit that deadline since this was extended for me thanks to the previous deadline crush.

Never be afraid to ask for an extension! The worst they can say is no. I’ve had editors extend and editors say no, it just depends on the project.

Publishing:

Last year I was in an anthology titled Street Magic, where I published a UF story in my Bone Witch world. Nariah Boyd is a black human woman living in an altered Los Angeles future where vampires have taken over and the paranormal walk the streets. She pays a monthly blood tithe to her local vampire mafia and can call on spirits for help.

This year, I’m in Street Magic II, with another story in the same world (different characters)! If you like magic dogs and portals to other worlds, check it out!

So far, these anthologies are the only place to get these short stories. They’re on my production list to release indie, but that list is very long and I just haven’t gotten to them yet.

I’m … almost at the point where I can release a collection of Bone Witch short stories. I’ll need to bank some art, at least one short that isn’t published, and time in the schedule to launch a kickstarter.
